Sometimes, you get the strangest, yet most appealing ideas walking down the street instead of when you’re at your desk nibbling on a pencil. It just hits me, sometimes before I go to sleep, or when I’m waiting in a queue. More often than not, I forget the idea, but lately I’ve been putting them into my iPhone, in a list. And when I looked back at that list yesterday, I found one particularly interesting.

“Design a series of corporate brand identities based on Pokémon.”

Guys? Stay with me here. When I was about eleven years old, I played a Pokémon game on a gameboy emulator on my PC, and I still think the creatures that Ken Sugimori designed are very iconic, characteristic designs. The crazy idea of doing some logotype work for them enticed my curiosity enough to actually do some work on it in my spare time. Here we go: corporate brand design, the Pokémon edition.

If you like it, please digg it.

After many months of working with Jon Lech Johansen (known on the internet as ‘DVD Jon’) and the other guys of the doubleTwist crew, I’m proud to announce doubleTwist for Mac has gone public today. I’ve designed doubleTwist’s icon, website, logo, and the interface together with Sean Patrick O’Brien.

dtscreen

doubleTwist is a great application (soon also on Windows) that aims to be for media what the browser is for the web. Got some music in iTunes and videos on Youtube you want to put on your Blackberry, or PSP? No problem, doubleTwist will handle all the details. Want to put your elaborate photo album of your last vacation on flickr, and share a select few privately with friends? doubleTwist does it.

It’s really an amazing idea for an application; you’d start to wonder why such a thing hasn’t been done before. It’s all very simple and fun to use. I suggest you check out the nice screencasts on the doubleTwist website, and download the beta. You can also see if your device works with doubleTwist.

How very awesome it is to see this on Apple’s website (and possibly on TV!). You can read about the design process of Classics here.

Head over to Aza’s blog to read his great description of the process. After thorough consideration, we chose for these irresistible blue eyes. We’re calling this the semi-final, as our official deadline was the 19th, but some polishing is yet required. It also turned out that there was no vector resource for the ‘unbranded’ Mozilla globe, so that’ll require some redrawing :).

Aza has compiled Mozilla’s selection of the Ubiquity logo concepts into a blog post. Head over to his blog to read his thoughts on the sketches and see which concepts made the cut. And oh, of course, your input is certainly appreciated! Leave them here on on Aza’s blog.

Please digg it if you have an account; we’d love as much input we can gather!

Here’s my first round of rough sketched-out concepts for Mozilla Ubiquity. I will post larger-resolution images of them on Flickr if requested. In the mean time, we’d very much appreciate your input on the sketches. More sketches will follow.

Important to take in mind here is that these are conceptual directions, and by no means representative drafts of a final logo. These sketches help determine the creative direction of the artwork.

Update: 7 sketches added! Check ’em out at the bottom of the post.
