The Ubiquity logo was finished in my series of ‘Inside Job‘ posts, but I think few of you have peered this deeply into the eyes of Ubiquibot, the new official logo and mascot of Mozilla LabsUbiquity.

Ubiquibot’s wallpaper comes in ‘Clean’, ‘Evil’, and ‘Good’ variants, all in glorious 2560*1600 pixel size. Enjoy!

This wallpaper is intended for personal usage and desktop customization only. Ubiquity and its identity is © 2008-2009, Mozilla.

Being in the Bay Area last week was great, as always. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the city of San Francisco, spending most of my time in its downtown area. The big highlight of my trip, however, was being in Mountain View at Mozilla’s offices.

I’ll share some of my impressions from the trip – I even brought home some nice loot. Also read on to check out some great websites and blogs of the people I met.

Head over to Aza’s blog to read his great description of the process. After thorough consideration, we chose for these irresistible blue eyes. We’re calling this the semi-final, as our official deadline was the 19th, but some polishing is yet required. It also turned out that there was no vector resource for the ‘unbranded’ Mozilla globe, so that’ll require some redrawing :).

Aza has compiled Mozilla’s selection of the Ubiquity logo concepts into a blog post. Head over to his blog to read his thoughts on the sketches and see which concepts made the cut. And oh, of course, your input is certainly appreciated! Leave them here on on Aza’s blog.

Please digg it if you have an account; we’d love as much input we can gather!

Here’s my first round of rough sketched-out concepts for Mozilla Ubiquity. I will post larger-resolution images of them on Flickr if requested. In the mean time, we’d very much appreciate your input on the sketches. More sketches will follow.

Important to take in mind here is that these are conceptual directions, and by no means representative drafts of a final logo. These sketches help determine the creative direction of the artwork.

Update: 7 sketches added! Check ’em out at the bottom of the post.

You might know Mozilla, creators of the popular Firefox browser, Thunderbird email client, and a lot more. While I’ll be visiting them this month in Mountain View, California, for something I will announce later, I was tasked by Aza Raskin to help the design of Ubiquity’s logo. Ubiquity is a Mozilla Labs experiment into connecting the Web with language in an attempt to find new user interfaces that could make it possible for everyone to do common Web tasks more quickly and easily. A very noble goal!

In true Open-source style, I will be opening up the design process and posting updates on the progress of the logo design as I go along. The deadline is tight! While I have already started sketching concepts, the logo needs to be completed by January 19th. You’ll be able to follow the design as it progresses right here, so enjoy this unique look behind the scenes. Track updates here, and follow my Twitter account for more small updates. Enjoy the show!
