27 Jul Leopard System Preferences icon.

So, apparently the latest seed of Leopard has a revamped System Preferences icon. Don’t go requesting the ADC members to upload it, that would be wrong. I have gone through the hassle of making a new icon based on the design. A little present, if you will!

Download it here.

Edit: TUAW hit :). Hello visitors, don’t forget to check out the other freeware icons for OS X at Icon Designer. Also, if you are interested in icons for use in Leopard applications, I have released a Leopard-ready stock icon set at the Icon Store.

    Nice icon! Thanks.

I agree, that it’d be wrong to take it from 9A499. So thanks a lot for going through the process of creating a “new” icon. I have absolutely no idea, what it takes to recreate such an icon, but i bet its not a job of 15 minutes. So, thanks a lot! :)

    Cheers, Niat

I just wanted to tell you how beautiful your website and icons are. This is some of the most gorgeous and professional work I have seen, ever. That Terminal icon in the preview of Designer Icons – ! That alone is one of the most stunning things…
Thank you so much for letting people use your icons, and be assured that the next time I need a designer, I know exactly where my business is going.

Also, would you mind if I were to promote you on the Apple Blog? I think the readers over there would love your stuff.

  7. Thank you for the beautiful icon.

For those wondering how to modify system level icons, try out Panic’s CandyBar app. It simplifies the process of changing system icons.

I had to change the ownership of System Preferences from “System” to my user before I could paste it over.

To change an icon, click on the icon and press Get Info or command-I. Click the icon you want to copy over in the Get Info window. Click on Edit>Copy. Now, click on the icon in the Get Info window where you want to copy the icon. Click Edit>Paste.

[…] Those of you out there (I have no idea how many of you there are– we’re all Mac nerds, right? …right?) will have to join me in applauding reader Sebastiaan, who noticed that there was a new System Preferences icon in the latest Leopard build, and put it up for download. Spreading the actual icon (and the actual wallpaper, actually) is a no-no, but Sebastiaan’s icon is only based on the same design, and not a copy of the icon itself. […]

  4. […] 5. […] There is a new System Preferences icon in the newest Leopard build, and it’s nice. Real nice. Dutch design student Sebastiaan de With created an almost-replica — because actually providing the .ICNS file from Leopard would be evil, naughty Zoot — and posted it for download. iPhone owners will recognize this new icon instantly. 7. […] As much as I like the copy-cat Leopard System Prefs Icon I’m not going to download it. When I upgrade to 10.5 this fall I want to savor every little detail. Changing the icon now would be like buying my Haloween costume and wearing it around the house this weekend. It steals a little bit of the novelty. […]

  9. […] Most important for me, being an icon designer, the new icons make all the difference. Bigger, smoother, all around improved. Large aspects of the icon redesign were tools like Network Utility. Some tiny details; Front Row, the media system you can activate with your remote, has gotten a nice theater-seat icon, System Preferences has gotten a gorgeous new iPhone-stye icon, iChat’s has gotten minor shading tweaks. The Finder sidebar, which was quite an unclean affair in Tiger, now looks very clean and modern with the new icons for Music, Movies, Pictures and Documents (see Source List). […]
