01 Jun Cocoaheads WWDC

It’s official: I never had as much giggles in an evening designing this poster for Cocoaheads WWDC. Scott asked me if I’d like to speak at the well-known Mac developer event, and I happily obliged. I also did a bit of poster art for the presentation screen and for, well, fun.

The lineup of speakers:

It’ll be held Wednesday June 10th, 7-9PM, at the Stockton St. Apple Store in San Francisco.

I’m really looking forward to WWDC this year. Hope to see you all at Cocoaheads or elsewhere during the week!

And yes, those are little Xcode hammers in the smoke.

I can’t read any of the text in the poster. Maybe the idea is to force the viewer to either pass on by and not get it, or have them invest the energy into deciphering it. That way you’re sure that anyone who figures out there’s a Cocoaheads group at WWDC has passed the test.

Actually I take back my first statement. I can read the June 10, but it’s in dark green on medium green and took me a while to find.

I like the retro look, presumably an homage to the San Francisco of the 1960s.

  3. @Patrick: Just to be clear, the poster is inline with the references I sent Sebastiaan: a series of Fillmore concert posters (which are highly stylized like this, or even moreso). His treatment of it was absolutely perfect, particularly the regional elements, the quirkiness, and the hidden imagery.

The poster will only appear in blog posts (like this one) or on a projection during the event, so his interpretation of a painting rather than a flyer was spot on. If we make prints, it will be for fun only, not informational purposes.

Maybe you can get the event recorded for those who can’t attend. I’d like to see a video of the full event. What do you think?

Nice poster, although that “H” is an “N”. :) I read it as Cocoanerds first.

  6. Ooooh.. nice! Is there any chance/way to get a printed copy of it?

    Thanks for clarifying, Scott.

Lucky: Recordings are not allowed, unfortunately :(
Andreas: Yeah, that’s a catch of Fillmore typography. Sometimes you can read entirely different things in it.
Jorg: Would you like an actual print delivered to your door or a high-res file?

Weird how the posted is somewhat similar to this russian ad: http://englishrussia.com/?p=2847

It’s a challenge to read what it says, but it’s not impossible! I like it. Good luck there in SF. Give it a good try!

  10. sebastiaan, awesome work. who’s mug is that meant to be on the mug?

  11. @sebastiaan well if you have prints, I’d take & pay for all costs etc for one of those.. otherwise I’d take the file to a local copyshop to print it out on shiny-shiny paper and put it up on the wall :) E-Mail me if any of this might be an option… would be cool :)

[…] Well, after a solid 13 hour trip and a beefy walk around town I’ve set up base here in San Francisco again. In the next few days, I’ll be posting updates on WWDC meetings, announcements, the first shirt printing, and my presentation at Cocoaheads WWDC. […]
